Collection: Handmade wine glasses from a German manufacturer

Our mouth-blown wine glasses combine traditional German craftsmanship with modern design. Made from the high-tech material borosilicate glass, they are surprisingly lightweight, extremely robust, and dishwasher-safe.

Whether for everyday enjoyment or as a special wedding gift: thanks to the colored, fused stem, each glass is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece.

What distinguishes mouth-blown wine glasses from machine-made ones?

In industrially manufactured wine glasses, a machine shapes the glass in seconds. Every piece is identical, every wall thickness exactly the same, every curve pre-programmed.

Mouth-blown wine glasses are made differently. Here, a person shapes the material with their breath. Two methods are used :

  1. In mold-blown glass, the glassblower blows the hot material into a pre-made hollow form; the contour is therefore predetermined.
  2. In freehand-blown glass, as at casa vitri, there is no mold or tool that determines the contour. Everything is created solely by the hands and experience of the glassblower.

This has consequences you can feel: the rim is more organic and the weight is less because no standardized mold distributes the material evenly. Each glass is slightly different – small variations in the bowl shape, fine grooves, tiny air bubbles. This is proof that a person has worked on it .

The secret of the material: Borosilicate glass 3.3

What makes our glasses so high-quality? The answer lies in the material and the manufacturing process. We don't use conventional crystal glass, but rather high-quality borosilicate glass 3.3 . This technical glass is otherwise used in laboratories and offers crucial advantages for wine lovers:

  • Dishwasher safe: Unlike many crystal glasses, borosilicate glass does not become milky or cloudy in the dishwasher. It is extremely resistant to chemical influences and heat.
  • Lightness & robustness: The glass is delicate and light in the hand, but due to its molecular structure it has a higher elasticity and thermal shock resistance than standard glass.

A unique piece for design lovers

The hallmark of our collection is the colored stem. In an elaborate process, colored borosilicate glass is fused with the transparent bowl. Because this process is done freehand, no two stems are exactly alike. Small grooves in the bowl or tiny air bubbles are not defects; they are the glassblower's signature and proof that your glass was not machine-made.

The perfect gift
Whether it's the flamingo wine glass for design enthusiasts or the classic red wine glass for purists: a casa vitri glass makes a statement. Packaged in our secure, specially designed packaging, it's the ideal gift for weddings, anniversaries, or for people who already have everything except a glass with a true soul.

Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

What is the difference between mouth-blown and machine-made?

Machine-made glasses are produced in seconds in automated systems. They are perfectly uniform, but lack any individual character.

Mouth-blown glasses are shaped by a glassblower using their own breath. At casa vitri, we even work entirely freehand, without any mold or template. This makes each glass unique.

Why are mouth-blown wine glasses more expensive than machine-made ones?

A single casa vitri wine glass requires approximately 40 minutes of pure handwork at a gas burner at over 1,000 °C, in addition to the time spent in the tempering oven.

In the same amount of time, one machine produces several hundred glasses. The price reflects the handcrafted labor, the high-quality material, and the fact that each piece is individually made.

What is borosilicate glass and why is it used for wine glasses?

Borosilicate glass 3.3 was originally developed for laboratory use. It has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion, which makes it resistant to thermal shock and extremely resistant to chemical influences.

For wine glasses, this means specifically: dishwasher safe without clouding, lead-free, lighter than comparable crystal glass and significantly more break-resistant in everyday use.

Why are the glasses dishwasher safe?

All casa vitri glasses are dishwasher safe . We use borosilicate glass 3.3, a high-performance material from laboratory technology. It is extremely resistant to chemical influences and heat. Unlike conventional crystal glass, it does not become cloudy in the dishwasher.

Ideally, place your glasses in the top rack of the dishwasher and use the glass holder if your dishwasher has one. We recommend, of course, positioning the glasses so they don't touch other items to prevent damage.

For best long-term care and to optimize energy efficiency, we recommend programs in the range of 50°C to 60°C (e.g. Eco program).

Just make sure you use appropriate dishwasher detergent if you have hard water.
If slight cloudiness is caused by limescale deposits, you can easily remove them with vinegar or citric acid.

Are the glasses really handmade?

Yes, absolutely. Every Casa Vitri glass is a truly unique piece , mouth-blown and hand-shaped in Germany. This means the glassblower shapes the material using only their lung power and tools, without the use of machines. It's the human touch that brings each glass to life.

Why are Casa Vitri glasses more robust than crystal glass?

By using borosilicate glass 3.3, our glasses are significantly more resistant to mechanical impacts and thermal stress. This material is characterized by its low thermal expansion, making it ideal for everyday, long-lasting use.
